Meet Emily Kuhn

Training: EMDR, CBT, IFS

Hi! My name is Emily. I’m a mom of two boys, a crafter, a home-renovation-project enthusiast, and someone who loves spending sunny weekends wandering local farmers markets or getting outside for a walk with my border collie. I’m naturally direct, warm, and down-to-earth, and I bring that same energy into the therapy room. I believe therapy works best when you can show up as yourself, feel understood, and also have someone who is willing to help you look honestly at the patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

In our work together, I’ll help you understand how your past experiences may still be showing up in your emotions, relationships, beliefs, and nervous system today. I specialize in complex PTSD, relational trauma, and difficult family dynamics, and I often work with people who know why they react the way they do but still feel overwhelmed, shut down, stuck in overthinking, people-pleasing, guilt, or repeating the same patterns in relationships.

My approach is compassionate, but I’m also direct. I won’t just sit back and nod while you continue feeling stuck. Together, we’ll work on understanding what is underneath your reactions, building your ability to manage difficult emotions and triggers, developing healthier boundaries, strengthening relationships, and processing experiences that still feel unresolved. My goal is not simply to help you cope with what happened to you, but to help you reach a place where the past has less control over how you feel, relate, and make decisions in the present.

I have nearly 10 years of experience working with youth, teens, adults, and families who have experienced trauma, displacement, mental health challenges, and complex family circumstances. Throughout my career, I have also worked closely with agencies and community systems across Suffolk County, Nassau County, and the five boroughs, which has given me a strong understanding of how difficult it can be to navigate multiple systems while you are already trying to manage everything else in your life.

I earned my Bachelor of Social Work from Siena College and my Master of Social Work from Fordham University’s Graduate School of Social Service, where I focused on Human Services-Based Leadership. I am an EMDR Certified Therapist and have completed Level 1 training in Internal Family Systems (IFS). I integrate EMDR, parts work, and trauma-informed approaches to help you better understand yourself, process what you have been through, and move toward a life that feels more connected, grounded, and your own.
