Meet Sarah Cupka

Hello, my name is Sarah. I am a Long Island transplant and Virginia native, and have had the
privilege to call several other states across the country home in between. I love traveling both in
and out of the United States, exploring cultures and meeting people in unexpected environments. I originally intended to become an anthropologist through the study of art and religion, but discovered I am more of a fan of having adventures and talking to people than studying them from a distance. I am an avid reader and am just as likely to be found sitting in the sun on a beach reading high fantasy as to be hiking while listening to the latest Malcom Gladwell title exploring patterns in cultural history. When I am not out and seeking adventure, I am most likely finding peace and my toes in soil as I tend my native pollinator garden.

My passion is working within populations of trauma of all ages, whether incidental, long term duration, or ongoing. Trauma comes in many forms and can impact us in any life stage, disrupting both the sense of self and concepts of trust in many ways. Through both my own journey of healing from intimate partner violence and working with those who have suffered various forms of trauma including violence in the home, surviving the Covid-19 pandemic or being engaged in a toxic work environment, I understand the difficulties of overcoming learned defense systems, building social supports without fearing judgment and individuating from the past to find autonomy and joy in the present. Through cultivating and understanding how the mind works and processing emotions in a safe environment, I can help you develop the understanding of you that is needed to engage in life fully without being obstructed by the past. I completed both my Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Counseling and Master of Science in
Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Long Island University Post. I interned at Victims Information Bureau of Suffolk , The Association Mental Health and Wellness and Insight Therapeutic Services.
